Project proposal No. 1658 entitled ‘SBS – CTCs’
Tethis S.p.A. has obtained funding granted by MiSE decree of March 5, 2018 Chapter II – Agreements for Innovation, for the project SBS-CTCs – CUP: B49J23000110005 under the Sustainable Growth Fund – Application Sector “Life Sciences” for a maximum contribution of €1,580,516.65 to support the development of a liquid biopsy platform, designed to diagnose the presence of cancer cells and provide an expression profile of various molecular markers that characterize the cells. The test is based on taking a simple peripheral blood sample, collected at cancer centers and analyzed at Tethis.
The project led to the creation of an instrument, the See.d, which, together with the use of SBS (SmartBioSurface ®) slides, made it possible to standardize the initial preparation of the biological sample. This allows cytology slides for cancer cell detection and plasma samples to be sent to the Tethis laboratory for further analysis. In addition, the project developed protocols for the analysis of cells on the slides, focusing on various tumor biomarkers, to obtain preliminary results useful for planning larger clinical trials, including regulatory studies for the diagnosis of both early and metastatic breast cancer.
