Advanced Optical Microscopy
for Non-Adherent Cells
SmartBioSurface® slides enable stable immobilization of non-adherent cells while preserving the optical quality required for advanced fluorescence microscopy.
Suspension-derived cells, including hematological cell lines and primary white blood cells, are often difficult to retain on conventional glass surfaces during fixation, staining, washing, and imaging procedures. This can compromise reproducibility, reduce image quality, and limit the effectiveness of high-resolution analyses.
The proprietary titanium nanostructured coating promotes efficient cell retention directly on imaging-grade glass, allowing cells to remain firmly positioned throughout sample preparation and acquisition. At the same time, the coating maintains low background fluorescence and introduces no detectable imaging artifacts, ensuring high signal-to-noise ratios and accurate visualization of cellular and subcellular structures.
SmartBioSurface® is fully compatible with standard immunofluorescence protocols and advanced fluorescence imaging technologies, including Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy (CLSM), Structured Illumination Microscopy (SIM), Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence (TIRF), and Stochastic Optical Reconstruction Microscopy (STORM).
In TIRF microscopy, the enhanced positioning of cells at the glass interface improves the visualization of membrane-associated and near-membrane structures while minimizing background signal. In STORM applications, the coating supports precise fluorophore localization and high-quality image reconstruction, enabling detailed analysis of nanoscale cellular features.
Experimental studies have demonstrated robust cell retention throughout sample preparation and imaging workflows.
The resulting combination of sample stability, optical performance, and imaging reproducibility makes SmartBioSurface® particularly effective for high-resolution and super-resolution microscopy of suspension cells. Among the tested configurations, the 20 nm titanium coating delivered the best performance in super-resolution imaging, providing improved localization precision and reconstruction quality.
By combining reliable cell immobilization with excellent optical properties, SmartBioSurface® offers a versatile platform for advanced imaging applications in immunology, hematology, oncology, cell biology, and translational research.
Fully compatible with multicolor immunofluorescence workflows, SmartBioSurface slides support a wide range of advanced microscopy platforms, including Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy (CLSM), and super-resolution Structured Illumination Microscopy (SIM). The coating generates no detectable fluorescence artifacts and provides the optical stability required for high-quality image acquisition and reconstruction.
By combining robust cell immobilization, excellent optical performance, and compatibility with advanced fluorescence imaging techniques, SmartBioSurface® slides offer a versatile platform for studying suspension-derived cells across applications in immunology, cell biology, hematology, and translational research.
